Although this article is unrelated to soccer, this is a piece about a duel sport athlete (football and baseball) at Villanova who chose to miss a portion of his baseball season (he's leading his team and is second in the Big East with a .435 batting average) so he could donate bone marrow to help save a 19 month-old girl's life.
While Villanova was making its run to win the Football Subdivision Championship last Fall, quarterback Matt Szczur was scheduled to donate bone marrow and miss a portion of the FCS playoffs. The little girl began making progress toward getting better, so Szczur was able to finish out the playoffs and help his team to the FCS National Championship. This Spring will baseball season in full swing, as her condition worsened, Szczur stepped up to a different plate and hit a home-run, donating life saving bone marrow the day before a theology final.
This is a heart warming story of selflessness I had to share. To read the article, click anywhere in this paragraph.
